Anyone ENJOY School?

Nursing Students General Students

I've been accepted to LPN school for the Fall, and have been in college off and on my whole adult life (I'm 31...so errm 15 years or so counting high school dual enrollment?) I never knew what I "really wanted to do" until after I had my children and spent some time out in the world, so I don't have a degree, but boy do I have a lot of random credits! I have often said that I just wanted to be a professional student forever.

I couldn't stand to wait for school to start in the Fall, so I took my Algebra course this summer (just started) and it got me thinking about nursing school. I'm just so excited that I think I'm going to pop! Not because its hard to get into. Not because I want to be a nurse (although I most definitely do). Not because its a stepping stone to a career, etc etc. But because I cannot WAIT to get my hands dirty doing nursing "stuff". I hope we get to practice IVs and I cant wait to slip on my first set of scrubs, walk into a hospital, smile at a patient, dig in to my Nursing Essentials book, have my first nursing test, etc. Am I crazy? Is it really possible to love nursing and nursing school for the technical part? Has anyone else gone on to be an RN and felt bad because they enjoyed the technical aspects of their job? I almost feel guilty for getting excited when I watch a surgery documentary or the thought of being an OR nurse or a burn unit nurse, because while I do definitely want to help people very very much, its those scientific/amazing body type details, and all of the machines and life saving devices that make me want to jump up and down!

I hate the thought of being excited over someone else's pain because I will get to help them, but I am still really looking forward to diving in and making a difference.

*I probably should say that I've been a bookkeeper/admin assistant for the past 12 years and I've never had a job where I was not chained to a desk 9-5 just trying to help some poor stressed out overworked sales guy make more sales bonuses.

Your post made me feel so much better - my major in college is being a student. I've been one for 10 years.

I'm not studying nursing anymore, but I would say I enjoy school. I enjoy having lively debates in class. I just enjoy learning.

I generally like school, but this semester is not my preferred. To gain a visual, consider this: I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a spoon than listen to anymore of these lectures.

I LOVE SCHOOL! And it's a good thing b/c I've been in college for 8 years straight (working on my 3rd degree) and have plans for at least another 5 yrs. But I know it's not for everybody and I definitely have friends who think I'm strange...and I'd probably feel differently if I wasn't a good student.

I talk to sorority sisters from several years back who are established in their careers and they just laugh to find out I'm still truckin' along in college!:yeah:

I enjoy school. I always have. I love to learn stuff and I enjoy the interactions with the faculty and the other students.

I am enjoying my nursing program. I am working with some very bright, energetic people and we really click. It's a very supportive group that's shown no signs of infighting or competitiveness. Our clinical instructor is wonderful and most of the nurses at our clinical site have been great. I've enjoyed each of my patients in their own way, even the difficult ones.

Im in a 3 year BSN program and just started my 3rd semester about a week ago. I would have to say that this semester is really going to suck because its a lot of information condensed to 11 short weeks. Like you said, I do enjoy the "technical" part but sometimes it can be hard to enjoy do to all the stress that comes along with nursing school. I have to say that this semester we get to learn to start IVs and Im totally excited for that, but as a whole.. im more excited to be done with school rather than school itself. Dont love the tests, dont love the studying, dont love the all the work that comes along with clinicals...but i do LOVE nursing so far, and I know its for me. All the hard work will be worth it in 2 years.

I really enjoy school. still, I am enjoying summer break too. I didn't always like school so much though. In high school I was not interested in putting any effort into learning. Luckily I got good grades without trying. I wonder what I would have gotten if I had actually tried. Now, that I am older (just turned 40) I value education. I love the whole process of learning, and one of the things I love about being a nurse is that you will never stop learning. I would love to go on and get my masters but I don't know if financially I will be able to or age wise it will be something doable. I definately plan of getting my BSN, I start ASN in the fall.

I completely know how you feel! I am starting a BSN program in the fall, and I am really excited to learn all of the human anatomy, physiology of disease, why something is happening all the way at the cellular level, things of that nature. I think I may end up wanting to do something in surgery or ER where I am able to see a lot of interesting things. Is it bad that I'm not as interested in the holistic part of nursing? I guess everyone is different! Nonetheless, I am so excited!

I love school and love learning. I will be starting grad school in August in a semi-related field.

With that said, nursing school has been one of the most trying times in my life. I finish in a week. I love the knowledge that I have gained, but I doubt I could manage much more in nursing school. I love the friendships I have made, but there are several instructors who's tires deserve to be slashed.

It is like a school war zone in my mind. I survived and for that I am proud. But I am glad that I will never have to go back.

I've always loved school. I'm not in the nursing program yet (I start in the Fall) and all the horror stories are making me nervous. However, other than that, I have always loved school and I wish I could be a professional student too! ;) Except for Psychology courses... the only courses in the world that I never enjoyed, but that could be due to the professors I've had so far.

I love school and learning in general. That is one of the things that excites me about being a nurse. I am actually require to continue to attend classes and learn.

I like nursing school :loveya:! I am bummed to be off 3 months for the summer :(. I think the information we are learning is interesting, working with patients in clinical is rewarding. I like watching ER, Grey's Anatomy and House and knowing some of the stuff they are talking about now!
