Another student loan question!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Okay, so I am having to take out a private student loan. Of course, it has a variable interest rate. I have never had to do this before, so I am kind of confused. I have an index rate, plus a margin. Will the index always stay the same, and the margin increase/decrease? Also, is there a website where I can look at the increases/decreases of the last year?

Thanks for any help.

Oh, they must mean something, you seem compelled to vehemently reply.

LMAO!!!! :yeah: do you just lurk on all the student loan threads waiting to lash out at anyone with a question or problem, mocking them for being so stupid as to take out a loan, or not investigate thoroughly the LIBOR index, blah blah blah? god, are you really that miserable that you just have to bring as many people down with you as possible?!?

! i bet you'd be a real winner to work with, too. god help the innocent orientee who asks when the first payday is, or some other ridiculously poorly-researched question that they should have investigated prior to coming onto the floor.

give us hell, bicster! we're all stupid bloody bastards, we deserve it. :chuckle

Regarding your original question, I do not have any advice. I am against borrowing money so I could not in good faith advise.

Looking at the tone and content of your other posts, perhaps the lesson to be learned is how to hold yourself back from posting if you can't be helpful answering the question asked. :icon_roll Posting a disclaimer that your answer won't be helpful is not an excuse.

Part of the blame can be placed on financial aid in some areas. When I had to take out a federal loan for my last degree I was swept through the process just told to sign here sign here and sign here Luckily through a combination of research and speed reading I understood it all but I can imagine a lot get lost along the way.

That is how I feel. I try to ask questions, but get very vauge (sp?) answers. I feel that I have no choice but to take the loan. It is either take the loan, or don't go to school. I am going to try to call the lender today and see if maybe they can explain it a little better.

Thanks to everyone who offered any advice/help.

Fair enough.

Sometimes though, there are deeper issues that need to be resolved than just the question being asked. Further, my responses, while not helpful to the OP, might help someone else. Maybe someone said to themself: "Hmm, good point, maybe I should read the fine print before signing." To me it seems common sense, but apparently it is not.

I have received a pretty decent amount of thank you's for my posts. For the most part, the advice I offer is generally things people dont want to hear. I might be abrasive, but there is value in what I type. At least I think so, otherwise I wouldnt waste my time. I have nothing to gain or lose if she takes out loans and pays an exhorbinant amount of interest. There are other and better ways. That is my end goal.

End of rant.

Well, a former post of yours stated that you received many many C's. You may not be stupid, but you are pretty mediocre.

If that is truly your goal, then consider modifying your approach to tone down your abrasive nature. Belittling people for their mistakes or naivety does not lend to a reputation of sincerity and credible knowledge. My point being, there are better ways to form an argument which will lend to more effective results.

In addition, I don't know many nurses who find that patient education goes over well when they use a consistent abrasive tone.

 um, actually, no....i have never stated that in a post....so you must be thinking of another metallic element hahahaha! the reason i have never stated that in a post is that it's not true. i have only received one "c" in my life, and that was due to absenteeism at a 7:00am class, rather than a lack of comprehension of the material. (you're only 18 once! hahaha)

you know, bicster, at first your constant haranguing and mean-ness really bothered me, but i realized that it must be really terrible to walk through life seeing so many people in such an awful light as you see them......the way you write your posts, it just sounds like you actually think less of people who don't live the way you live or think the way you think, about loans, or about whatever.....

i think it must be really hard to get through the day being so annoyed by and hateful of so many people whom you've never even met face to face. some of us might actually be good people. smart people. loving people. friendly people. so i guess i feel bad for you for not being capable of seeing that, instead of getting all mad at you like i did at first.

"to a hammer, all the world is nails." but it doesn't have to be that way....

feel the love :-) :loveya:

When in doubt deploy the insults.....

Interesting theory...

Also, I guess I forgot to mention, I haven't signed on the loan. And, I am TRYING to investigate everything before I do.

I finally got someone at the loan company, and I have it all figured out. Again thanks to the ones who helped.

Thread closed, as OP indicates that her questions have been resolved.
