Am I setting myself up for failure?

I'm currently taking A&P I and I LOVE it. I've got an A in the class. I'm registered for next semester and I'm taking 17 hours. A&P II, Micro, Sociology I, Nutrition I, and English comp I. Do you guys think this is overkill? So far, I have 12 hours completed and have a 4.0. I want to keep the 4.0 as long as possible! I also won't be working next semester. What do you think?

If you are dedicated you can do it!!!:)

2 Labs is always tought to keep up with for me. The A & P 2 and Nutrition will complement each other, so that helps.

I don't really know about Micro, I have heard that it is tough. Don't rush it if you dont have to. You might think about taking an elective, those are also sometimes required ;)

I think as long as you consider school your FT job and your extra PT job....you'll be OK! :) It sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, it just takes lots of time.... but it sounds like you doing all right so far. Don't be afraid to drop a class if you need to!

Brett,

I think you can do it, especially since you wont be working.

Sociolgy, English Comp and Nutrition I thought were very easy. Micro is fun and I dont find it hard at all (though I am sure that totally depends on the teacher).

Sounds like you are doing great. And if it does get to be to much you can always drop one and not have to worry about it ruining your GPA.

Good luck, I just enrolled for next semester as well.

Brett,

Last semester, I took A&P II, Chem 121, English 102, Nutrition 223 (which completely kicked my butt as my professor taught it as though we all had biochemistry backgrounds!!) and I came out of it with A's in Nutr 223 and Eng 102, and B's in A&P and Chem 121 (which is by far my WORST subject). It was tough but the way I looked at it was this: if I could make it through a semester with those classes and do fine, I would be able to make it through nursing school. So far, that line of thinking has worked...I'm doing well in the nursing program and have yet to experience the stress and frustration that some of my classmates feel. Of course, we just started clinicals today and I'm scared to death I'm going to do something wrong with my patient. She's this tiny, 80lb, 87 year old woman and it intimidates me just thinking about having to go in tomorrow morning and get her up and going for the day. Sigh.........

I think if you make sure to set aside studying time and stick to it, you will be fine. Just don't fall behind!! =) Good luck!

If your not working, it's possible to do if you give up a social life and don't have big family demands (kids, spouse, etc.) But if you do, you are setting your self up to be stretched way to thin.

No problem! I went from 12 credits last fall, to 17 last spring, and the difference wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be (even with three kids, a husband, and a cat). Just carefully plot out when everything is due, when tests are etc., for the entire semester. This helps plan when to study for what.

I am trying to get a BSN done in four years, so I simply HAVE to take a heavier course load.

I think micro is going to be fun. I'll have the same instructor as I have for A&P I now. She's a great teacher! Almost to the point that you don't even need to study for lecture! Thanks everybody for your advice! I can do it !!

I think you are working towards a physical or mental breakdown if you MUST have a 4.0 to be satisfied. The number of hours you take is not as important as learning the material. You NEED this stuff when you practice. Don't toss it all into short term memory just to get a grade. Smart people, like you, are needed in nursing. Please take care of yourself.

Not all of us with a 4.0 are having mental or physical breakdowns to maintain it. I have young kids at home, husband, etc and have plenty of time for social activities. In fact MOST of the people in my classes either work full time or have kids or both and take 14+ credit hours a semester and do just fine.

No no!! You might have misunderstood me. I don't HAVE to have a 4.0, I just want to keep the one I've got for as long as possible :) I know it's coming! :roll A few "B"'s here and there are perfectly okay :)
