Well it's true you learn something new every day I was at the hospital having a test done and I was talking with one of the nurses about my s/p tube and she was tell me about they are not that common for young people and she began to tell me about a young person that had a colostomy and it got in his way so he had an internal one made and that he could just cover it up with a bandade and when he needed to "GO" he would just put in a tube and drain it off !!!

My mom had an iliostomy and that thing was just horrible ! and it all that time I never heard on this she said she had olney seen one other of these in 30 years .

I've only seen a few of these in my career (20 yrs). They're called Koch pouches but I'm unsure why more can't or choose not to be done.

It depends where the ostomy is placed whether a person is a candidate for this

I know you couldn't place it for a ileostomy but where would it be accepted for the colon? Or urostomy?

Specializes in ED.

an urostomy drains continuously, so no not a candidate. It has to do with where the ostomy is placed, if I am right, I think the transverse colon is best? Correct me if I am wrong.....

I just do not understand why this is not common ? Do all doctors know about this ? My mothers ileostomy was the worst thing I had ever seen in my life and the smell "oh my god" this would have changed her life !!!

I always said that I would rather die then live with one of thouse and I ment it ! even had that in writhing when I had a proseger done once .
