What is the quickest specialty certification out there?

Hey everyone,

I see that a lot of the specialty certifications out there require 2 years+ experience or so many hours or whatever. I'm wondering what certification out there is the quickest to get? Anyone know? The quickest I've seen is wound care I think...

The point of taking a certification exam usually arises because the nurse has already been working in that specialty for a period of time, and intends to continue. You're not just trying to pass an exam, but increase your knowledge within a particular specialty.

Currently, I'm studying for geriatrics. I've read many sources on the specialty but my goal is to spend a few hours each week reading and preparing for the exam. I precept many students and orient new nurses now, so it makes sense that I should continue to further my knowledge.

A few of my friends wrote and passed the specialty exams for their area of nursing, with months of study in advance.

It's also unlikely that a specialty cert will provide advantage re: immigration. Few jobs and many qualified nurses, including nurses with advance certifications and degrees.

It amazes me that people don't want to put forth effort and time for learning, especially when lives are at stake.

Agreed. For me, in order to get certified in the specialties that I worked in as a LPN, I had to be a RN; so I went through a BSN program, and plan to work and get my hours before taking specialty certification exam, as well as take CEU's before that to keep my knowledge specific to the certs I want for my career.
