  1. Immigration is a perfectly good reason to get a certification. I want to stay with my family, and if that is the only way the government is going to let me do it, then so be it. I am dedicated to nursing. I am professional, and I am passionate about nursing. I believe that any certification I decide to take I will accomplish. As long as I can be hands on with my patients, I am following my calling to nursing. That shows my integrity to nursing. Your judgment therefore is irrelevant in answering my question.
  2. I don't have TIME to invest... that is why I am asking the question - I wish I did, but I'm not that lucky.
  3. Wow some lovely judgmental comment... thanks. Actually, I have an immigration issue which requires me to get a specialty as soon as possible... hence the question. Sorry for SADDENING so many of you. "If you can't be bothered to do the work, then you don't deserve to have the certification." - Totally uncalled for. Putting in the work is not the issue here.
  4. Hey everyone, I see that a lot of the specialty certifications out there require 2 years+ experience or so many hours or whatever. I'm wondering what certification out there is the quickest to get? Anyone know? The quickest I've seen is wound care I think... Any insight would be great! Many thanks!
  5. That happened to me on the florida DOH site. I was using the "look up exam results" link and it showed PASSED, while I had another window with Pearson and it said my scores were unavailable. Maybe an hour later, Pearson gave me the option for Quick Results - what's the point when the state site showed I passed already!!! lol 24 hours later my license number showed up on the Fla Healthcare Provider search link. Congratulations!!!!
  6. Those scores seem good to me. I used Hurst and Kaplan Trainers. The trainers can be found online for free - do some google magic. Honestly the actual NCLEX Qs were more vague than anything I practiced before hand, but definitely get your priority and SATA Qs down. Practice, practice, practice and GOOD LUCK!
  7. Florida: You have to get you FBI level fingerprints done (at a local UPS) it cost me $85. Then you file an application on the state DOH website, I believe it was $150 or somewhere around that price. You concurrently create an account with Pearson Vue and pay the $200 for the NCLEX exam. Then you wait for your school to send the confirmation of your graduation to the BON. Once they receive it and process your application, they send you a confirmation. Pearson will receive the info from the BON and process your ATT. Your ATT will be emailed to you, then you can log on to Pearson and make an appointment to take your NCLEX. I advise you from my experience to Pay for Pearson and get your fingerprints done early before graduation, do your application for the BON. Then when your school sends your info to the BON you will be processed really quick. My school made the process so much longer because they made us all do this stuff after graduation. Took me 5 weeks to get an ATT because of that - and I had to call the BON & Pearson everyday - so annoying. Best of luck!
  8. RIGHT????!??!!! lol Seriously, she was insanely annoying. I enjoyed Hurst as a review, but the practice questions were not like the NCLEX.
  9. I used the old ones. I watched one newer one but the lady's voice was just so irritating. I just passed NCLEX on saturday. I think Hurst was a good refresher but I wouldn't say it was the main thing that helped me pass.
  10. Schedule it immediately. Use the test date as a goal. Create a study schedule. Get your study on!!!! Start with covering and refreshing your content base, end the last one or two weeks before the test just hammering out questions. Lot of questions, all formats, but focus on your priority setting. Best of luck to you!
  11. @CBrown12 Wow Cheryl, your experience is so inspiring! I hope one day to be able to do what you have done, perhaps on a smaller scale. I cannot imagine how rewarding it is to serve people in that "raw" way, without all the gadgets and gizmos! Thank you so much for sharing! :)
  12. May 2013 BAYYYYBAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY :) I see the finish line!!!!
  13. I understand you to a point. almost every clinical rotation I have loathed with a passion, and to this day I wonder if nursing is right for me. But, I chose nursing because it is such a huge field! There is such a variety of things to do, that's why I'm sticking it out. I graduate in May, and I know that I might have a sucky job at first, but once I have my foot in the door, I can figure out what I love to do and work towards it. Hang in there, there's light at the end of the tunnel, and from what I've seen so far, some units are Hell and others are the complete opposite. You can do it!
  14. Hi everyone, I am faced with the task of picking placement for preceptorship, I have to choose 3. For those who have completed this, or can advise on this, what area do you think is best to start out in? I've heard many say Med-surg or Tele, but I'm not sure why? What's out there? Any info would be great, love to hear your opinions, thanks! :)
  15. I have only seen 2 drop from my course, its a BSN 5 semester course. We're in the 4th right now and two dropped in the 3rd. One failed the semester and one left because she was diagnosed with cancer. My school is not brutal like many of the others I know of, it has a caring philosophy, they want to teach everyone to be the best nurse they can be, rather than discard them because they made a mistake - its better to make the mistake in school than when you have a 6 pt load!!!!
