What is a micropreemie?

I thought it was less than 28 weeks and less than 1000 grams. Someone else heard less than 26 weeks and less than 800 grams. Is there a standard definition? Has it changed? TIA.

You should go under NICU thread. I have read some of the nurses have taken care of preemies little as 400 grams and lived. I recently took care of a 600 gram and I thought my goodness tiny. His little eyes were still fused. It is so amazing to me! I would assume anything under 1000 grams would be considered a micro premie I am not sure they seem to get smaller and smaller.

Ken...actually, you wouldn't thank us if you really knew what kind of kids we put out of the unit....some are fine, but most are so devastated that they end up in long term care facilities...no brain, no gut, no nothing, just a shell :(
