What do I have to do for license endorsement?

i obtained my pennsylvania rn license through the nclex, then needed a delaware license. i did that through endorsement. now i may be working in maryland, which is a compact state (like delaware; pennsylvania is not). i am going to be moving to maryland if i work there. what do i need to do with my license, in regards to endorsement?

Go to the Maryland Board of Nursing and get an endorsement packet. You will need to have a driver's license in that state which will require Maryland car insurance and you will also need to have a background check completed. You also have 30 days after establishing your residence there to get this completed. Just a few tips, b/c I think that is what you were looking for. But my main piece of advice.... check BON website for that state.

The answer to your question depends upon where you live. You are granted compact privileges only if you are licensed in and reside in a compact state. For example, I live in NE (a compact state) and am licensed here. The compact portion of my license allows me to travel to any other compact state and work essentially as a non-resident "guest worker". If I lived in KS (a non-compact state) and wanted to work in NE, I would apply for licensure by endorsement and would receive a license good for NE only. I would not have compact privileges with my NE license.

If you reside in PA (or any non-compact state), and obtain a second license in a compact state, that second license is good only for working in the state in which it was issued. So if you live in PA, your DE license is good for DE only, even though DE is a compact state. If you move to MD, you would need to apply for a MD license (by endorsement), and since MD would be your state of residence, you would then have compact privileges.

If you live and are licensed in DE, you should have a license with compact privileges. That license allows you to travel or cross state lines to work as a "guest". If you move your permanent residence to MD, you will not be allowed to work in MD on your compact license. You will have to apply for MD licensure, since you would no longer be a "guest" in that state.

Gets confusing, doesn't it?

and i have one last question about this...does anyone know if i need a driver's license or anything for the endorsement? it seems really complicated to get a driver's license in a new state...
