What certifications would help a new grad get in the ER?

Nurses General Nursing

BSN prepared (by time of applying), currently holding a BLS certification, and currently work as a PCT. Are there any other certifications that I can get that would make me stand out in comparison to other candidates? (prior to sitting for my NCLEX)

There are some nurse residency programs around and there are some ED's in my state that are open to hiring new grads given they have healthcare experience, but they're very competitive.

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated! (also I'm currently a junior)

If your program offers a capstone/practicum placement try to get into the ED as a student. In my program students who got practicum placements in the ED had excellent grades, strong recommendations from clinical faculty and took ACLS training before placement. My local hospital will only hire into their ED residency new grads who had ED or ICU practicum placements and they are highly competitive.

It may also help to consider places you would be willing to move post-graduation, many of the classmates who had dreams of competitive specialties got new grad residencies in those specialties by being willing to move for the job (smaller community hospitals or out of state).

ACLS, PALS, TNCC. Just for starters.

I would go for that residency. I would get someone that has that under their belt more than someone with those certs. Any monkey can do ACLS, but can you hack it in an ER as a nurse doing the other things. That is what the residency would be able to do, if you goal is ER right out of the gate.

the TNCC after I get my license? or should I still do so before becoming an RN to get the C.Es? I thought u couldn't get certified in it unless one was an RN.
