Went to work in whites today!

That's right, I wore the whole shebang today. White dress. White hose. White duty shoes. My manager made me a paper hat! What a great day. Patients and staff loved it. My manager gave me the "thank you letter" that all the system RN's got if they have an extra board certification. Then she said, "I have another copy. I'll give it to you again at the next all-staff meeting." It was a great celebration of nursing! So awesome.

We planned a buffet of delicious food and all the RN's brought something to share. The rest of the staff was all coming in to get stuff and the code words were, "Happy nurses week!" If they didn't say it, they didn't get treats.

I didn't even get anything on my dress until my shift was almost over.

Just thought I'd share. Best nurses week ever. Thanks to my AN friends for inspiring me.

do we work at the same place?lol. because they did the same thing at my job today too...

I'm truly glad you enjoyed the "day'" of wearing all white.

I know that patients appreciate it because they can easily identify who their nurse is.

However, I have worked in facilities that require this as dress code.

Let me tell you, it takes all the fun out of it.

It's so easy to get a stain ..coffee, blood, sweat or tears... to turn that professional look into sloppy and unkempt.

I survived.. special laundry techniques, etc.

But let's face it! It's just not practical!

A couple of the stranger responses (now that the buzz has worn off)

One doc (older guy) chuckled and he said he thought it was great, I think he meant in a "servant class" sense.

Another doc, female, mid-twenties maybe? had no idea that nurses had ever really worn that. Ever.

A couple other people asked me if it was my Hallowe'en costume. (No, I don't do cliches for Hallowe'en.)

And no, absolutely not practical. At all!!

We were encouraged to do the same, but I put the whole thing on and felt so self-conscious. Also, BAM, that time of the month. So I wore black and gray instead

I used to work with a nurse who wore the little white dress to work every single day.

No joke. She was an adorable, sweet little nurse who could pull off wearing the

white dress better than anyone, I think.

I also used to work in a facility where nurses were required to wear white tops

but we could wear any color, solid bottoms. I'm a sloppy eater and I drink

coffee on the way to work, so sometimes I'd be all messed up

before I even started my shift.
