I want real, honest opinions.
Was nursing worth it for you? Would you recommend anyone do it, or tell them to run far, far away?
If you could go back, what would you have done with your life?

I don't regret becoming a nurse. I do regret decisions I made with my career & wish I became an RN instead of an LVN. I wouldn't persuade people toward or away from nursing. If they are truly interested in nursing I would talk to them about it.

On paper it's not a bad gig, darn good pay for a 2 year degree. And, for me, it was totally worth it. I hated school and it was a struggle for me, but still worth it. Keep in mind, since this is a nursing site, most people here have made it as a nurse so the answers may be skewed. Not all nurses stay in nursing for whatever reason.

Yes, I would totally become a nurse again. But what I would do to change things, would be to get my degree sooner, and work in an area I wanted instead of one where I became more burnt out than an old campfire.....

Would I still be a nurse? Absolutely. What would I change? Go directly to BSN post high school shortly thereafter. Though the diverse experiences I've had between high school and nursing school most definitely positively affected my nursing education and made me the nurse I am today.
Unlike others I know I enjoyed nursing school. The critical thinking and applied knowledge just came naturally to me. I enjoyed the challenge of NCLEX style questions. I actually read all of my nursing textbooks and completed the study guides & workbooks (apparently the only person in the history of my program and likely since but I'm that kind of nerd).
Was it all worth it? Yes. I only wish I did it sooner
There is no way I could've made it through nursing school straight out of HS, not nearly mature enough. Barely mature enough now, lol.

Acute, you are an ASN as well? Me too.
My BA is n Psych, and I am slooooooowly going for my BSN.
OP: YES, it was worth it. I've always worked, sometimes 2 jobs. I also have no fear of being poor or living from paycheck to paycheck if my marriage were to go *kaput*.
I like medicine. I like learning. I like teaching. I like people.
And there is nothing wrong with that, knowing you are not ready is very important. Many do better waiting to enter college
Thank you for all of the responses so far! I'm taking pre-requisites for an accelerated BSN program, and a nurse friend that I have has terrified me! As well as a cousin who is an LPN. They're both very burned out!
I tried nursing in the beginning and flunked A&P miserably because I was an immature 21 year old. Although I'm not that much older (25) I notice a HUGE difference in my mindset; I'm studying so much more and actually getting A's
The younger girls in my nursing class failed out. I was 22 and one of the younger ones, but I had worked already and knew I wanted it.
Best of luck!!!

There were two girls younger than me in my LVN program, 18-19. They both passed actually!
