War For Nurses

Although nurses fight their own war everyday on the homefront, I'm curious to know what nurses think about the war in the middle east. Not many nurses have commented on the war in Iraq at the current time.

Personally, I have a family member getting ready to be sent over to the war, which my family is quite anxious about. I have found myself at a loss for words mostly, because I feel that he is doing a greater good by going over. I've even considered doing something myself, like joining the armed forces to go over, but I realize that it would probably be over by the time I got over there.

Anyway, what are your hospitals doing to support the war in Iraq? Does anybody know any employees who have been shipped out to the middle east, and what roles are they playing in the war?

Historically, nurses have played important roles in previous wars, like WWII, Vietnam, etc. How does this war affect nurese as compared to those wars of the past? Is anyone else considering helping out our forces in some shape or form, and how?

I'd also like to know opinions about the US being seen as exercising totality over Iraq, mostly for it's oil fields. Personally, I don't believe all that jargon. I firmly believe that we are there to liberate the Iraqi people. People tend to forget all the oppression that the Iraqi people have undergone at the hands of such a tyrant dictatorship.

I am unable to listen to a lot of news reports about the actions going on right now. My husband who was an army brat and who also served in the army watches it constantly when he is at home. This continous observation of the news and reporting that is on TV makes me extremely anxious and uneasy. He tells me what is happening on TV and I watch a little.

I am a veteran. I was a medic during the VietNam era. Personally, I'm a saver/healer, not a Killer.

As for wars... I would join up and go today, as long as I could go in that function.. this time as a nurse. It wouldn't matter to me whether I agreed with the politics behind the war or not.. if I could go as a nurse, I would go in a heartbeat.

If I were 20 years younger right now, you'd find me on that "floating hospital" out at sea. I would have no qualms about being in the midst of it even on land... as long as I was on the "helping" end of things.

I support our government on the fact that we need to get that homicidal maniac out of office and get the people standing on thier own again. He has weapons of self-destruction over there and we need to get rid of them before he uses them on our country or some other country.

I come from a long line of soldiers that have fought for this country, at least I know to Civil War days that I had soliders in my family but I am not going to tell you what side they were on in that conflict.

I have many friends that have children overseas and I pray for them every night. I know they were close a week ago but I don't know where they are now. Our VFW auxiliary are making up care packages for some of the people that we know over there and we are buying the phone cards that are being sponsored by the VFW. That way the kids have a way to call thier parents at home. I hope that this resolution ends quickly and that Iraq gets rid of the dictator that is running thier country.
