Update: My wound patient

Nurses General Nursing

Published

she was seen at the wound clinic late yesterday and i got a call from the nurse today. the surgeon there anesthetized her, cut out the wound bed and debrided the crater, cauterized with silver nitrate, and put her on abx. i'm going in for daily dressing changes and she follows up next week . if there's no improvement he will take her to surgery.

i found out today from the pt that when she saw the original surgeon last week, after she was squeezed in because of a phone call from me, he blurted out, "i wish those nurses would keep their opinions to themselves!" when the wound nurse called me today she said the second surgeon is planning on talking with the first one to find out why he didn't treat the pt's complications.

Great news Tazzi! Don't doubt yourself, you're awesome!

Specializes in Med-Surg, Wound Care.
Thanks, everyone. What makes things like this frustrating is that I start to doubt myself when I keep talking and I don't get listened to, mostly because home health is a new field for me. It gets to the point when I start thinking, "Maybe I am overreacting."

Corn, fecal smell....nope you didn't overreact!! I work in Wound Care, luckily with an awesome group of docs.
