union!!!! PLEASE HELP

my new job offers the option to join the union only working 17hrs/wk and you recieve benefits. the staff development nurse told me that union paid in full for her to get her license and provided her with a living stipen throughout school so she would not have to work. i would be very interested in this because school is going to be very expensive and i'd like to have whatever other benefits they may pffer or at least know about them. i havent go the chance yet to speak to someone that really knows about this stuff yet, but the staff development nurse told me some things. i would like to know if anyone could tell me if this sounds good or not, and also advantages and disadvantages of joining the union. call the union & ask for the membership dept. They can answer your questions about the benefits offered. Or talk to the nurses who are delegates (stewards) at your facility.
