Uniforms

Can anyone help out with some information? We have recently been given new uniforms to wear on our unit and it has been suggested that the old ones (which are still in good condition) could be send to another country eg. in the third world. Does anyone have any contact names, web-sites, organisation names etc. where we could go for information on how to go about doing this? Thanking you all in advance!! :)

Which third world country?

I take mine to the resale shop the Women's Club has 3 times a year. There new nurses, housekeepers etc, would be able to get clean. sturdy uniforms and shoes for a very low price. Last time I took 100 items. I did not accept payment. I donated it back to our club.

We do not have a particular country in mind, we just thought that they may be of use somewhere where there was little enough money for meds, never mind uniforms.

I just heard about a charity called Remedy. They collect unused surgical equipment for third world countries. They have a web site that has contacts of charities that accept medical supplies/equipment. Worth a try!

How about right here to all the Reservations that are poorer than many third world countries? Have you ever been to Pine Ridge? Let's help people right here that need help.

Great idea, Beth, but I notice amber munchkin is from the UK.

amber munchkin, does you trust not already send things such as powered gloves overseas? Could you not send the uniforms over with them?

Or how about the army? I think they often take donated medicines and blankets with them when they go out to provide medical assitance, they might take your uniforms out for you.

thanks to everyone who has replied so far, i will pass the web site and other suggestions on to my manager

depending on your uniforms, I am not sure they would be used. I have worled in Africa, Central America and Thailand. Every hospital I entered the Nurses wore starched white uni's with no exceptions. If they are not this, I am sure the uni's will be used for clothing for just anyone. you can always send any used clothes, glasses, medical stuff to Feed the Children in OK, USA- they make 4-6 trips a year taking eye wear, clothing, food, glasses, medicines, and occasional treats such as incubators and other medical supplies.

I hate to contradict anyone, but I have been to Pine Ridge and have been elsewhere, as bad as pine ridge is, I recently experienced three children dying of starvation in Nicaragua (we were a day too late, or it seems, more like a week too late in getting there). I think it's apples and oranges and probably shouldn't be compared. However, if the Uni's are colored, they might be perfect for Pine Ridge and used for the purpose of Uni's.
