Trying to survive. need tips on how to do well.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

hey,

I am junior at Rutgers and trying to survive my first clinical semester. I was wondering if anyone had any tips making it through this program. I feel like so much of the stuff is dry and boring. I am also looking for some words of encouragement to myself and fellow students. I am the president of my class and I am starting to feel all the pressure of school, clubs, and work. I try to do my best to help all my classmates and give them all the support they need. Unfortunately, I dont have the support for myself. PLEASE HELP!!!

There is a forum on this BB for nursing students, not surprisingly called "student nursing," where you might get some more current feedback, since most of the posters there are in school right now.

that was very encouraging. thanks.:scrying:

RutgerskidBSN, it sounds like what you are learning to do is to practice for your first big burn-out as a nurse. In fact, it sounds quite a bit like you're already there. :) :)

First rule of nursing: Take care of yourself first.

Second rule of nursing: See the first rule.

Now, if you have TIME and the emotional and physical resources left, participate in clubs and help others.

If you don't learn to do that now, you're going to be in major trouble when you start nursing for real.

Let's get this next generation of nurses out of the idea that self comes last, OK? :kiss

And welcome to the Boards (allnurses boards, that is)!

kevin!

welcome to the board and to the "world of student nursing". i too am a first semester rn (asn) student.

we can survive together.

congratulations on being president of your class.

i was president of my lpn class.

support, you have it from many here. see you soon!

Kev....it seems dry and boring because it is dry and boring. Try looking forward more. They have something you want (BSN) so while you are there, you have to play the game their way. You will be forced to remember facts that will do you absolutely no good whatsoever when you graduate. This is all part of your education. We all did it. We didn't like it either. You don't have to like it, you just have to do it. Good luck. If you hate it badly enough, you can always quit.

Kevin,

Welcome aboard!!! My suggestions to you would be to look ahead one semester at a time, reward yourself at the end of each semester with a lunch out with friends. Form a study group,

come into the chat room and ask questions, lots of us experienced nurses love chatting with students, we can learn from each other. Just focus on what your project is at the time and before you know it you will be a graduate. Good luck.
