Torn Between 2 Jobs

Nurses General Nursing

So I am currently torn between two jobs. I just graduated with my BSN in May of 2015. In October I was hire as a labor & delivery nurse. I always thought that was what I wanted to do. Turns out that after 12 weeks of orientation I'm not sure that I like it. I still find it interesting, but I don't know if I can do this for years.

I started applying to other job and was offered a staff nurse position at a nursing home. I never thought I would work in long term care, and now I'm very confused.

The nursing home will give me a more set schedule and $3 more per hour. It is also 30 minutes closer to my house. They are offering $1000 sign on bonus and tuition reimbursement. I would be working 3p-11p (my desired shift). In L+D I work day/night rotating shifts.

Please tell me what to do. I am so torn. I don't know if I could handle being the only RN on a floor of 60 patients in the nursing home, but I also don't like how critical L+D can be.

I need some advice. Please.

Leaving a job before a year had passed would be professional suicide. L&d is a very desired field you may not get a second chance.

Oh goodness, that's a question only you can answer Hun. I wouldn't stay anywhere I wasn't happy personnally but that's me. Do you see yourself liking working in a LTC? Go there for a day if possible and check it out. Money isn't everything but it's nice. Desirable shifts are great and better than money in my opinion lol. What is it you don't like about LnD? Every area has its problems for sure it's just what you are comfortable dealing with. LnD gets easier once you learn the ropes but there are always those clinchers that make even the most seasoned nurse hold their breath. Good luck deciding!
