  1. Yeah, that is a problem that should never happen. We have to find a way to protect our elderly. It is sad that we have people that find this acceptable to do to someone.
  2. It is nice, very nice! We rarely have 4 and we have 2 aides at times 3 and we have 28 pts on the floor with 6 rooms for ICU pts.
  3. Honestly, I don't see how one can take more than 4 pts at a time. I work Cardiac Stepdown and we have 4 at most but usually 3. I have read where some RNs have 7 pts, no way I would take that load, not even 6.
  4. That's a hard road to go down. All the horror stories we see and read about I can understand why families would want this. I don't agree, but maybe cameras in the rooms that are monitored in a central location like telemetry does. Still a fine road!
  5. Your daughter has to fight her own battles if she is gonna make it. If the preceptor is too much for her she can request a different one. Her, not you! Honestly, the family members will be much hard on her then the preceptor at times, so she needs to develop some think skin. You going to her PCM doesn't look good in her favor. If a Cardiac Stepdown is too much for her she can request to move to a different floor.
  6. I wish we had better options on night shift. I know I can pack my own food but sometimes I just don't have the time at home. So many unhealthy options on nights.
  7. We had a "high" profile patient on my floor, I stayed far away from his name.
  8. I just submitted my application today for January. How long did it take to get your acceptance?
  9. I absolutely LOVE working at CFVMC!!! I have nothing negative to say. My patient ratio is normally 4:1 occasionally 5:1 but that's hardly ever. I work on a Cardiac floor!
  10. Actually their pass rate was quite good until that year. I figured out why but they haven't had an issue with any classes prior to or since.
  11. When I went to Nursing school this is what quite a few of my instructors told the students as well. They said that many times their C students were better clinically than their A students. They said that the A students found it harder to think critically on the floor. I wasn't an A student but I was the only one in my entire class that passed the Hesi with more than a 900. I never worried about my grades I worried about whether or not I was grasping the information and able to apply it. I guess in the end I did pretty well, out of my entire graduating class there has only been 4 students total including myself that has passed the NCLEX. That was back in 2012, an expensive degree to have and never be able to use. Tan
  12. I guess my question would be how many hours did you work? Are you a new grad? Maybe per diem is a better option for you if f/t isn't giving you what you expect. Not that per diem will either because sometimes you may not get a pay check at all. Are you bring home less than $1700 every 2 weeks? Sorry it's such a shock to you but yes nurses are and will always be underpaid if you ask me. Tan
  13. I am not sure what options you have right now if you are wanting to join as an Army nurse since you have to have 2 years experience to direct commission. That requirement is non waiver able so I'm not sure what recourse you have at the moment. And yes Army nurses do NBOLC not OSC. He was trying to pull a fast one. 17 years active duty here!!!í ½í¸í ½í¸
  14. Oh goodness, that's a question only you can answer Hun. I wouldn't stay anywhere I wasn't happy personnally but that's me. Do you see yourself liking working in a LTC? Go there for a day if possible and check it out. Money isn't everything but it's nice. Desirable shifts are great and better than money in my opinion lol. What is it you don't like about LnD? Every area has its problems for sure it's just what you are comfortable dealing with. LnD gets easier once you learn the ropes but there are always those clinchers that make even the most seasoned nurse hold their breath. Good luck deciding!
