Thoughts on the STT Convention in Indianapolis?

I am very curious what anyone else thought about the Sigma Theta Tau convention in Indianapolis last week. It was my first one and I attended on my own nickel. I got a lot out of the sessions I attended and felt it was very helpful. What blew me away was the fact that there were 1800 attendees yet some of my sessions had 4 or 5 people in the audience! There seemed to be a whole lot more shopping going on than learning.

Lots of fancy dress luncheon /cocktail opportunities geared towards the post-doctorate set. Not my style but then I didn't have to pay for them (optional fees).

Anyone else attend? I was alone so didn't have anyone to bounce impressions off of.

Unfortunately that seems to be the common thread in most if not all the various conventions I have attended for over 30 years.

I attended an Ortho conference in Atlanta.....where I saw more folks on the street carrying Zimmer tote bags, (BIG ortho equipment company-free handouts :) ) than I ever saw inside the World Congress Center.

In Nashville, there was the same ratio.

In Orlando, In Philly, In SF, in New Orleans.......

Maybe they should find an unattractive city to hold these things in. Oh but then NO one would want to come, because there was nothing to DO.
