Stupid questions but need answers

I'm on percocet rx'd from surgery. And I just had a urine drug test. I let the DON know that I will show up positive but am able to show proof of rx. She told me she didn't need to know that but she will send out the sample. Then offered me a position pending background check.

1st question, am I ok with the drug test as long as I have the prescription?

2nd, is a positive urine drug screen for preemployment something that is reported to the BON?

3rd, why doesn't she need to know about why I'll show positive on a drug test? She's the DON, shouldn't she be made aware of that?

Thanks for your help guys.

You should be fine. The DON doesn't need to know because it's not her job to know. There should be a medical records officer with the facility who would contact you after a positive result to confirm a prescription exists.

#3 - I think she might be referring to the fact that PRE-EMPLOYMENT employers can't ask about heath problems. It could be considered discriminatory (kind of like they can't ask you about pregnancies, etc).

I'm just guessing because you asked.

If tests come up positive, then comes the questions AFTER the positive....

Thanks guys. But this isn't something that is reported to the board of nursing, is it?

It shouldn't be as long as you have a valid Rx.

Got it. Thanks
