JewelsN2be, you are definately going to find nurses that eat their young. But the overwhelming majority of us are into our own thing, doing our job minding our own business, doesn't mean we are mean or ignoring you or don't want you around. Be careful not to read to much into other people's actions. It's a stressful job and you really don't know what is going on in someone's mind. Look at all the venting going on in this BB. They could be having the day from hell and just aren't in the mood.

Good luck. When you are a nurse, remember how it felt and treat the student nurses how you want to be treated now.

There is a forum called student nursing for this kind of issue. It has already been talked to death on the general nursing forum.

...everyone needs to be allowed to write in the wrong forum now and then, this is a big site and it's new to a lot of ppl.

I guess when you hear this stuff every few weeks it can and will get old but everyone needs to remember they were there once too. (new to the site and new as a nurse)

welcome to the BB! Come on over to the student forum and you get tons of support from ppl going through the same thing (you'll also get support on every forum:D )

Nurses aren't all happy and friendly. Don't get wound up over the "eat their young" stigma attached to certain work environments. Being bullied or harrassed occurs as a fact of life, meaning, there will be inappropriate behavior (even though it is wrong). If other peoples behavior causes you sorrow or pain, do what you believe is best.

hey, I just want to ask a question, nothing really to do with topic. I am having a really awful clinical rotation. My instructor just gave me an unsatisfactory in my clinical eval and I am real worried about passing. I do well on the tests. I did mess up a sterile dressing change, I hate to say this but I really feel like she hates me. There are lot more factors that are beyond my control, major issues between my instructor and myself. What should I do? I feel like she will give me another unsatisfactory even if I do everything right. Anyone with similar problem, that can give me some advice? My old instructors were mortified that i got an unsatisfactory. They told me to go to the head of the department. I don't want to make waves, I just want to pass.

Hi. Did you get an unsatisfactory in just one clinical? That's o.k. you can still pass while making an unsatisfactory one week. If you've passed all the other clinicals I'm sure you can pass this one.

You instructor doesn't hate you. If you have concerns first have a meeting with her/him one-on-one and go over the instructors concerns and be willing to work on whatever you need to work on, without laying the blame elsewhere. If problems continue after that then maybe take it up another level. But I wouldn't take it up another level without first talking one-on-one with the instructor to show you are willing to work on it.

Good luck!

If you are having problems with your clinical teacher I would highly recommend just setting some time aside to talk to Him/her. Communication is really important and so is taking charge of situations. I think your teacher would apprectiate it if you talked things out with them. See if there is anything you can do to prove that you can do the procedure correctly. If not, at least you will have talked things out and hopefully learned more about your teacher and how to make things better next time. So far I have had a great experience with my clinical instructors and all of my nursing teachers. I have found that taking time aside from school to just talk to them has really taught me a lot about the people that they really are. Very wonderful people. Anyways hope that helps out some. Good luck! :D

Some nurses don't like working with students because we make their jobs harder sometimes. They have to check that we did everything right even if we did it with our instructor. Just try to do your job and if they try to make you feel stupid (which many attempt because their already pissed off from something else) just thank them for sharing info with you. Nurses are known for eating their young. Obviously from the other posts on this thread, you even get hated on in forums.. some people are just bitter.. you just shake them off and be nosy at clinical. If the nurses don't want to work with you, thats their problem. You have the right to learn and gain skills. Good luck!
