Hi everyone, just wanted to get a little advice from some fellow nurses here. I am currently on a job hunt for a full-time job (I am currently working two part-time jobs as this worked better for me for the last few years. Anyway, I have only applied to two jobs since starting my search back in December because I am looking for some specific characteristics in a new job (i.e. I want a M-F day shift schedule, but am willing to do call or come in occasionally on off-shifts as necessary). I've been a nurse for over 10 years and just finished a dual master's degree in nursing and health administration, and I'm just ready to move away from the bedside (plus I was recently diagnosed with RA).

That's just a little background info, but moving on. I did interview for both jobs. In one job, I was told they were interviewing another candidate who had more experience in that area and the manager said she would let me know what the decision was. That was three weeks ago, though she did email me to say she still hasn't hired anyone or interviewed the other applicant, so I'm still on the list. The other job involved a 4 hour interview with multiple groups of people associated with that position. This went well, but the hiring manager said she would have a decision by this past Friday (Feb 26) and here it is Monday (Mar 1) and I haven't heard anything either way.

So, my question is, should I call or email the hiring manager of that second position to follow-up or would that be rushing things? I did email a thank-you note after the interview, but have heard nothing since then. I am just nerve wracked right now because I really need to find a full-time job and soon for financial and health reasons. Any advice or suggestions are welcome.:)

i would say you could either send an email or call (personally i lean to call) tomorrow and say you are just following up and wondering if they know yet.

I would certainly get in touch with them. Whatever their decision was, it will benefit you to know. It's not like they will get annoyed and not offer the job to you if you were their pick... Good luck!

email and request a receipt it was received

Ok, so I called the recruiter that had called me initially to set up the interview just to ask if I would be notified either way and also if she had heard anything from the manager. She said she had not heard yet, but that they will let me know either way.

However...my manager just came to me a little while ago and asked (with a huge smile) if I had something to tell her (she knows about my job hunt). I told her no, and asked if I was supposed to and she then covered her mouth as if she had accidently let out some kind of secret. It turns out the hiring manager had called her for a reference and told my manager that she planned on offering me the job! My manager then made me swear to act surprised when I got the actual offer, lol! So, I am happy, but still worried because I still haven't heard anything personally and she talked to my manager last week. I'm just going to be patient and hope that this truly comes through. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Just wanted to say congratulations! :yeah: I love hearing good news! I'm sure you'll be getting that call soon.

Yay, I got the official call! Now just negotiating salary as the position I'm in as a supervisor with this organization has a higher salary range than the job I've been offered (which surprised the heck out of me since the job requires a master's, i.e. additional education and the supervisor job doesn't). I requested a raise, but would honestly be happy if they give me what I'm currently making cuz it will still be more income as my other part-time job pays $3 less per hour.
