shadowing

Nurses General Nursing

Hello All!

I am shadowing within the same healthcare organization for a second time but in a different outpatient office location. I do not understand where I went wrong with my first shadowing session, everyone seemed to love me. Nursing is my second career, and I had no idea how difficult it would be to find a job. I always thought that if you shadowed and it went well, then that was usually a good thing.

Does anyone have advice for me of what could of gone wrong? This is for Chop by the way so i'm sure there are a lot of candidates. Any advice or recommendations on questions to ask?

Thanks everyone!

Why do you think anything went wrong ?

The people at the office might like you, but they are not the ones hiring you.

Unless you are looking at a very small organization, the Human Resources department does the hiring and they were not there when you shadowed.

To get anywhere in HR, applications are all on computer. Unless the right keywords and qualifications show up on your application, your application will be deleted like it never existed.

Most outpatient nursing jobs are more demand than supply. Lots of highly qualified nurses will apply, so the competition is strong. If you are a new grad, you might want to look into the less popular nursing jobs.

I agree! Even with the "nursing shortage," it is difficult to get your dream specialty as a new grad. I would continue to use the shadowing opportunities to grow and be able speak about the specialty you're passionate about. Start building your network as well!

I am confused. It is a small offsite location and I interviewed with the doctors, as well as the nurses I shadowed. I thought the person who would have the final say is the office manager because it their office. Thanks so much for the advice, sorry for the delay I was sick with the stomach flu.

I'm not sure. I actually asked the Senior Talent Acquisition who interviewed me for feedback on the interview and application process. She said she did not have any advice to offer me and then recommended me to interview at a different location. I felt that interview and shadow went great! I am keeping my hopes up! Please pray for me, I truly feel this is the job for me! Thanks so much for responding, sorry for the delay, I was sick with the stomach flu!
