RN license to be inactive

I was reading some posts, I have a question: Do I need to request inactive status if I plan not to practice in that state in a long time, or I just let it pass due it will automatically change to inactive status? Thank you!

P.S. Oh, I just checked, I let my IL license pass due, and its status is "not renewed". Does it matter? I am not planning going back to IL.

Why not just keep renewing? If not, it is far better to make your license inactive then to let it lapse. It will be easier and less costly to reactivate it later.

If you're not going back AND you have an active license in another state- it would be silly to spend $$ keeping it active. IF you ever DO go back- just reapply by endorsement using your current active license.

Are you making the assumption that this is OPs only license?
