Reason for leaving a job?

I have an interview tomorrow with another area within the hospital I currently work. I am sure the first question will be, "Why do you want to leave your current position?" and I just can't come up with a good answer.

Saying, "I want to learn something new sounds so trite." I do really want to try a different area of nursing (I am currently on a med/surg floor and am interviewing for an outpt surgery prep type position) so I would be learning new stuff, but not a lot.

The truth is the floor has just gotten way too stressful and the patients way too critically ill for me to handle it ( and our manager refuses to staff according to acuity; it's strictly numbers) and I want something more doable. But I know I can't say that in the interview.

Any ideas?

I'm trying to think if I got asked that...Oh yes I did. I wouldn't go into all the negatives of your former job during your interview. I left my stepdown job because I wanted to go to SICU and get experience there while attending school for my BSN and then my MSN.

Maybe say that you've worked on whatever floor for however long and you would like a change of pace.

Why not just say that you are ready to exlore other opportunities. There is nothing wrong with wanting to change. Like OP mentioned just don't mention any negatives about your current position.

I would say something to the effect of "I would like to explore opportunities in a new environment and broaden my skills".

Oh! That's a great response. See, I just can't think of these things; I don't know why. Actually I do like my current job, so I won't be talking negatively about it, but I've been there so long. I won't be terribly disappointed if I don't get the new position, but I really want to do something different.

How about "I would like to work in a new area to inprove my skills and explore more opportunities in my career". I think it is acceptable for the interviewers--Idid it.
