Raise fiasco - need advice

I've worked for the same hospital for 2 years. My first year as a PCT and my 2nd year as an RN. On 4/18, my manager handed me a piece of paper showing that I would receive a raise in the amount of $2.196. Obviously I was thrilled. She told me it included a market-rate adjustment and a merit-based raise and I didn't question a thing - I definitely felt like the raise was needed AND deserved. This morning, she walks me to her office and hands me another letter. She said "There's been a mistake" ... I get a new piece of paper with no explanation from HR for their mistake that states I will now receive a $0.55 raise instead of the original raise amount. Obviously, I'm a little devastated (student loans) and also, honestly, angry.

What would you do if you were in my situation? I'm the level-headed, methodical type and I absolutely plan on contacting someone about this issue and expressing my extreme dismay, but I don't even know where to start. Any raise would be extremely appreciated... but when you're offered one thing and then receive something MUCH less... it just makes you feel like an employee who isn't valued for the amount of work they put in every time they show up at their job.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Leave your manager out of it. Present yourself in person to HR requesting their calculations.

If you like your job etc., then I would be gracious about it. You expect your employer to be gracious when you make a mistake, don't you? Well, this was the mistake of one of colleagues -- an employee, just like you. Treat that person the same way you want to be treated when YOU make a mistake.

Yes, ask to see the calculations. Yes, express how disappointed you are to learn that the raise you thought you had gotten is now not to be. But don't over-react or be mean about it.

What goes around, comes around. If you act like a jerk about this now ... expect similar treatment in the future, when you make a mistake. Karma can be a b****.

I think she is talking about an annual raise, not pct to RN. I would just simply talk to HR. Mistakes happen. You've made them, right.
