Questions From A Newcomer

Hi all,

Phew, I finally made it onto your wonderful forum. It must be wonderful to have such a support system at the end of a long day or night.

I am a person in her mid forties who already has an English degree but is thinking about returning to school for nursing. Won't that be wonderful returning to undergraduate classes with students who could be my kids.

At any rate, I have the following questions for any of you hospital nurses out there.

(1) Do most hospital nurses give patient IV's or take blood?

and,

(2) When you're a nursing student (in NJ), are you expected to

give other students IV's or take their blood for practice?

IVs freak me out and the blood issue is well, :trout:

The answer to your question is: yes, and: don't sweat it.

Humans amazingly re-adapt to new 'norms'. You will get used to it and before you know it, you won't recall why you had qualms about it in the first place.

WElcome to alnurses!It is a cool thing.As far as you going back to school,I personally was amazed when I read the thread How old were you when you went to nursing school?(something like that)A lot of people were in thier 40s and late 50s even.Thats so encouraging and enlightening.Allantiques
