Other than working in LTC, where else can a CNA work?

Nurses General Nursing

I'm basic nursing assistant certified, according to state board of nursing, that puts me at the same level as a CNA. I'd like to get some experience under my belt, but I'd prefer not to work in a LTC faculty.

Please don't get the wrong idea. I can stand to wipe butts, clean linens, and perform as an underpaid maid, but I cannot lift over 50 pounds (doctor's orders) nor do I have the stamina to run around like a chicken with its head cut off. (Sorry, bad pun.)

My future goal is to become a perioperative nurse and a first assistant. Luckily, these duties are in my ability to perform after I've been properly trained.

But what could I do as a BNA other than nursing home maid work?

I am a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) I have worked in home health care, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Nursing homes, Assisted Living (as a med tech/caregiver), and hospitals

Remind me never to have surgery there

Me too!

What do you think scrub techs are?? V. few hospitals use licensed people to pass instruments anymore -- it's all scrub techs, and they are high school grads who have been trained to pass instruments, with no other training or qualifications.

Specializes in Mother-Baby, Rehab, Hospice, Memory Care.

Some states are requiring mandatory certification as a surgical tech (CST) now. So many ST's have more than just high school education. They have to attend 1-2 years of school to earn diplomas or associate degrees in surgical technology. I think hospital's training unlicensed staff to scrub is more of a thing in the past, probably not as common today, but I could be wrong...

In my country the minimum required to scrub is a post grad course for the LPN.

Unregulated personnel are only in the ORs to assist with tear down/clean up. They are not permitted to anything requiring sterile techique.

Agreed. It's disrespectful to Nurse Aides. Unfortunately, I've seen this attitude come from some nurses.

I work as an Aide now and am currently an RN student. When I become an RN, I will respect my aides and appreciate their abilities.

You, sir, have an attitude of success. :hlk:

There are no formal scrub requirements here. Surgical technologists, CNA's, LPN's, RN's, and MA's can all be trained to scrub. :hlk:
