I'm a new RN graduate and in my job hunt, The hospitals seem to be hurting for OR nurses. What is wrong with OR? Should I try it? I'm afraid:uhoh3: But I'm thinking of giving it a try, I just don't want to waste time getting orientated and trained to hate it. In school I only got one OR day. Help!!:roll

ahoy, biker nurse:flamesonb, i've come to save the day, o.k maybe not. well if you really think you got a thing for or nursing give it a try. things don't always go how we want it to, sorry to say, but maybe you won't like the or, or maybe you will, still try it, the greatest risk is not taking one at all- so i've heard. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)

p.s give your post a really outstanding title, so that people respond it works for me- (take a look and see). for instance instead of saying

or nursing, write something like a cry 4 help, or!!!!, or mission impossible, the or!!!!!

I haven't been on in several days, or I certainly would have responded to you query!!

I always (well, almost always) would recommend the O.R. to anyone. I came to the O.R. right out of school, and would not do anything else! I love it!

You certainly have to have the personality for the OR - read all the threads under OR nursing that you can and you'll understand more.

You also have to be inclined to learn about technology, learn more about anatomy, and learn about different procedures. You build upon everything that you learn, and after a while you suddenly realize that you are somewhat of an expert at many things, but not at others. But, you are OK with this. You are willing to seek help when needed, and provide help when asked. How will you know if you don't try it? Believe me, before 4 months are up you will know if you hate it. But give it at least 4 months. Everyone hates what they don't know. As you learn and become accepted into the perioperative family, you gain the love of it. Don't take that as a negative. Every time you go somewhere new, you need to become accepted, and accept others. It's no big-bag secret club. There's just that transition period thatyou have to get through anywhere.
