Opinions on weekend only night shift position

I am considering applying for a position in the OR that would consist of Friday, Saturday, Sunday 7pm-7am. I am wondering if anyone has any input about the drawbacks of doing this. Pro's: I have the whole week off to be available for my family, frees me up for additional educational opportunities, no call with this shift. Cons: would miss a lot social opportunities, the hubby has Saturday and Sunday off, would miss most extended family gatherings (that could also be a pro:smokin:).

I recognize that I could not do this indefinitely, but I figured I would be ok with it for a few years. Anyone working something similar have opinions?

I have an offer for an RN subacute supervisor, weekends only. I want to go back for my Masters Degree. How do I have a social life??

If I could find a weekend only position remotely close to where I live I would take it in a heartbeat.....if you are planning on going for your Masters a social life would most likely need to take a backseat for awhile.

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

I personally wouldn't. If I worked straight weekends at my job I would probably find another one. Not that I have much of a social life to begin with, but the weekends are really the only time I get to spend with my husband. By the time he comes home during the week he is just too exhausted to really want to do anything. It also might be very difficult to ask for time off, swap with another coworker or call in sick. :twocents:
