Nursing Salary

Nurses General Nursing

I just got my 2nd job offer as a RN. Currently I am a Psych Nurse for a major nationwide company. I've been there for a little over 2 years. My current job is the only experience I have as a RN. I started looking for a new position with my current company and found a job as a Hospice Nurse. I interviewed the other day and shadowed the Supervisor today. I'm really excited as this position is minutes from my house. My current job is a hour drive each way. Both positions have pros and cons as with any RN position. My question is.. Do you think my salary will increase with this new position? HR will be calling me soon to give me an offer. Right now I make $21.33 a hour and get my shift differentials and weekends. My new job does not require me to work weekends, however I will be on call every third weekend and two nights a week making $2/hour, so that covers the weekends. I feel like this position has more responsibilities that I don't have currently. Your thoughts?

I am always fond of saying that money isn't everything. Cutting out all that drive time (also consider gas, increased frequency of routine servicing, tires, etc.), learning a new specialty, having weekends off (even c call on q3rd wkend).... all of those would be worth change in salary to me.

But it's really up to you. If you want to know what the position pays, ask. Or when they make you an offer, if they do, IN WRITING, be sure it includes the rate of pay and what you expected about hours/days/call, etc., and then tell them you will get back to them in 48 hours with your decision.
