Hi all nurses,

I am doing research for grad school correlating the nurses sense of belonging to job retention in an ICU at a small community hospital. If you are doing research on clinical issues, just take something you've always wondered about that use that for your study. If you are doing clinical issues you'll need patient consents and have to go through IRB approvals, etc. If it's just basic research on a topic, I think it should just be on something you're really passionate about to make the most of the assignment.

Good luck!

I'm working in a clinic and i had never done any research studies.

So, now i had to think of a topic to do for my assignment. Like what examples? Can cite a few for me to start off? Please?

Hi rnmaven,

can just give me one or two examples to start off with as i am working in a clinic and i had never done any research before. This is just a basic research. I need to think of a topic to start writing but i don't have any good idea. It's kind of difficult for me and i'm a bit stress out with this subject. Need lots of readings but got to look for a sample to guide. Can't find any and seriously need help. So, any examples i can do in my work place? It's a general practioner clinic. THanks so much !

Noncompliance (patints)

A really controversal one would be comparing the influence of drug rep's on what the mds are presribing and much more the average pt is paying a month for their drugs, after being switched to (new and improved) drugs vs the less expensive older drugs.

Or research on how sample meds given to uninsured by their doc's improve compiance

I can't type I'm sure there are a lot of typos in this post:)

Noney

I always wanted to do one focusing on the difference between the way a sick employee is treated at the ER or wherever they work as opposed to a non-employee..especially nurses. I've seen cases where an employee was treated and sent home with the same thing that a nonemployee was admitted and put on iv therapy for. This has happened several times, just at one of the hospitals where I work.

It would be interesting to see medication errors related to number of consecutive hours worked - 8 hr shifts vs 12 hr shifts. Or related to rotating shifts - days, nights. Also errors related to floating or changing assignments during the last 4 hours of a 12 hour shift.

I had to do one last semester for my nursing research class and it was on why breast cancer was occuring in women of younger and younger ages in recent history. I didn't really like this topic, but worked with it. I am also doing a research proposal this semester for another nursing class and am using the topic of recruiting nurses from foreign countries to ease the shortage in America. For this, though, we are just examining the perceptions of the foreign nurses recruited and their American counterparts.

I do not know if you are doing true scientific research or just looking up info on a particular topic for a class assignment. What diseases do you see the most of in your clinic? What age population? If it is adults with diabetes, why not research the topic of different types of exercise recommended for diabetics. Is walking as beneficial as going to the gym? How much exercise? How often? How can you judge the benefits?

When I have class assignments I get my clues from the topics discussed on this site.

Hi everybody....

Thanks for all the suggestions and i had finally come up with a topic while sitting down at the clinic and start looking around. So what i'm gonna work on is Comaparison of tympanic and oral thermometer. I need to pass and score on this subjects very well in order to get at least a good grade for this module. I just got my results for part A which consist of 50% of this module. Wasn't satisfied with my results after i put in so much effort although the grade is pass. I aim for a distinction but didn't come true so i need to put in extra effort for this remaining module , that is my research literature.

After i read the 6 articles, i realised that my research knowledge is very poor. Coz i don't know how to critique from what i have read , especially the methodology part.

Although we don't have to critque the statistic method but somehow still need to know how to interpret.

I find it's tough when we need to write down our views.

Anybody ever did this topic before? Can help me, please?

I'm quite sad over my grade.:crying2:
