Greetings! I am contemplating moving to Tennessee in the next year or so and I am curious as to the Nurse-to-patient ratios. I am currently working on a Medical/Surgical-Oncology/Palliative Care Unit. I would most likely transfer to med/surg once in Tennessee as well.

My other area of interest is Pediatric Oncology, which I hope to work up too. If anyone has information on this specific specialty it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for any advice or information!

I live in Tennessee and work on a med/surg tele unit. Our ratio is 4:1.

I see you're located in CA, the only state with legally mandated nurse/patient ratios for acute care hospital settings. Be mindful that no other state in the union has specific ratios written into law. Therefore, the hospital where you'll eventually work can assign any arbitrary number of patients to you.

Yes, I am aware of this! This is why I am inquiring as to the ratios that people have experienced in varying hospitals :)

Thank you so much for sharing! I would ask which city but you don't have to share if that is too personal :) I know the ratios will vary from hospital to hospital and which shift you work.
