Hi, everyone

I just got the job into the hospital through nurse residency, where i have to take 1 class each month. I was woundering hows the nurse residency and what type of courses include at that residency. Also i graduate from the college where there was no seperate pharmacology class. Is nurse residency include seperate pharmacology class. What we as nurses doing to improve knowledge on drugs.

Any responds will be great.

Specializes in orthopedic/trauma, Informatics, diabetes.

I did a nurse residency. Some it is fluff, a lot of what I had was hospital specific about different things, like skin policy, corporate attitudes and vision and what that looks like in practice. The topics are varied. Good thing about it, you get a lot of contact hours.

As far as specific classes, like pharmacology, I did not have that, they expect you do know that. you will learn about specific medications that you use on a regular basis during work. You will have others to ask and plenty reference resources.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

^Pretty much my experience in a residency.

If you are having issues with Pharmacology; perhaps you can self-study; I suggest PharmPhlash cards or if you prefer to be budget conscious, use the search bar and type in Pharmacology Cards; a poster developed these cards and are highly recommended.

Best wishes.
