Needlestick!! :O :O Possible HEP C +

Hi everyone,

I am only 3 months into my nursing career in the NICU and yesterday I had a needlestick :((((((((((

I was giving a baby a vaccination.. I believe it was with a 24 gauge needle, I gave the injection and as I went to put on the safety she kicked me and i stuck my thumb with the dirty needle :( It was an IM injection, no visible blood coming from baby after the injection, but I did poke myself hard enough that I bled. I washed my thumb immediately.

I found out that her mother is Hep C positive! :o :O It is too soon to know if baby has Hep C and I will be getting my blood tested.

Should I be worried???

It is always good to run some tests, just to be sure.
