You can go to the public and ask , put it in the news paper , do a fund raiser, get alot of people together and do it to raise funds. You also might want to contact a flight company (lifeflight) and tell them of the circumstances and they may have staff that will donate thier time, to help out another nurse. We had a scrub tech at the hospital I worked at have a mva that left her para and in need of many medical procedures and rehab.

This is what was done for her:

The staff gathered moneys in the department for her, and her family.

The hospital dontated its services and flight team to transfer her to colorado for rehab.

We did a cookout for her many grocery stores in the area donated things to be cooked when they were notified of what occured, alot of companys in the surrounding area also donated money and one company even matched what money we raised.

We put in the paper the fund raiser, had posters all over the hospital, and had them plastered all around town , to bring in as many people as possible for the chilli, bbq, soups and sandwhiches . it was a donation basis at the door and a base price for a plate of food. Alot of money was raised.

Even though she was a traveler you may want to contact past hospitals that she worked for, Im sure she had friends in each place she worked at, let them know and tell them of the need even one dollar will help.

Contact any nursing organizations she maybe associated with, maybe they can help or even have an idea that will also help raise funds to bring this nurse home to be with her family.

Contact the hospital as see if they will accept what the insurance will cover, and work on it from there, even a small recoop is better than no recoop at all, they have funds for indigent care, and if money is raised then a dedicate a percentage to the hospital which worked and took care of your friend.

Go to her home town put it in the newspaper and go to the bank and set up a fund in her name and advertise the need for help , its amazing how if people know about what is going on they will help, and it may not be a large amount of money, every little bit counts at this time. Find out from the travel company that she worked with, some have policeys that cover short term disability, thats some tucked money there as well. Some companys keep it standard as a base package. Ask many to donate time, to assist in the care of her, and to help in any way they can.

I do hope this helps if not I will do what I can for you in this time.

Nurses Helping Nurses Since 1922. . .

When hardship strikes, it is especially difficult for those of us accustomed to giving care to seek support from others. To help nurses in need, Nurses House extends short term financial assistance to registered nurses in difficulty as a result of injury, illness or disability.

By providing anonymous help, Nurses House is there to ease the financial strains that accompany misfortune. Thousands of nurses in all 50 states have been aided by Nurses House since 1922.

Getting Help

Nurses House began as a respite facility in New York. In 1959 this shelter was sold to create a national fund to assist nurses facing great personal adversity to maintain dignity and self-esteem while recovering from their problems. (the application link is located here)

Specializes in OB, M/S, ICU, Neurosciences.

Michael--try the National Head Injury Foundation as well for guidance and assistance in finding organizations that may be able to help.

Hope you get some help from Nurses House..and I will keep you and your girlfriend in my prayers.

Have you visited with social services in the facility to gain their insight on the best courses of action? They should be able to refer you as well. And since this was an auto accident, hope you are going after that $$ too to help her....get a lawyer if you must to get the policy limits.

Good luck..it took me three years to collect my policy $$$ following a wreck and I know it's not an easy fight.

I don't know if they can help but you can try http://www.angelflightamerica.org . This organization flies people for free who are in need of medical treatment but can't afford to pay. They provide non-emegrency transport and they all do it on a volunter basis. Best of luck
