wow...long move...did that a few years ago. I moved from Michigan To Tennessee and from there to another part of Tennesse and then back to Michigan all in a six month period (we moved for job purposes). I wish I could help you other then a "good luck to ya". I know how hard and stressful moves like that can be. :)

Well, good luck...just curious because im in IL and am considering moving to CA...both of our moves will be far!

I'm in Houston. Do you mean you will be living on the south side of Houston? Houston is a very large city- it can take an hour or more to drive from one end to the other. Do you have kids and need school district recommendations? What kind of nursing do you do now?

I work on a cardiac floor.........I do not have any kids ...........my hubby will be based out of hobby airport.....we are going to rent 1st then once we know the areas will be looking to buy.....so any help is wonderful.............

Sorry to be so long, we took a quick trip out of town (hill country, toobing, yea!)

That's a good location for a nurse- Hobby is located between I-45 and 288, closer to I-45. If you desire to work in the Texas Medical Center itself (north of Hobby), you would have two nice ways to get there. The TMC is a happening place. There are lots of outlying hospitals south of Hobby, too. Memorial SE (the biggest), Clear Lake Regional (it's round), and St Johns(Catholic) would be easy to get to. You could probably check on-line to see their job postings.

With no kids to consider, you could live anywhere really, since you don't need to consider school districts. You might prefer Pearland for the small-town feel. League City and Friendswood also retain some of the small town feel and are closer to the water areas if you like boating and water activities.

Hobby is surrounded by acres and acres of apartments. They will be close to his work, but noisy. Also, the surrounding are is not known as a great place to live. You should head down I-45 south (away from town) a couple of exits for housing. Perhaps Sagemont (west at the Beltway 8 exit)- it's a giant residential subdivision, or into Pasadena (east at the BW8 exit). Your husband might prefer the Clear Lake area (my area), just a few exits, further because it is home to the Johnson Space Center and Ellington Field, and he'll find lots of pilot and engineering types there. Every time a plane files over, every geek (a joke) in the neighborhood looks up to ID it- we have alot of unusual crafts r/t Ellington Field.

Have no doubt you will need a map! Houston is the 4th largest city in the nation. We have it all here, you just have to drive to get to it!

Let me know if you have more questions.

I live about two miles from the Medical Center and I love it here. I plan on moving into a house as soon as I graduate in the IIIrd Ward area, which sounds scary to some people, but is actually really quite nice. The houses were generally built in the 30's and 40's and have a lot of character. The rent is reasonable if you look. I found a three bedroom on LaBranch for $865/mth from http://www.olympusnelson.com. The good thing about living in town is that even if you have to work at Hobby (as your husband has to do) the traffic will be going the other way. Whereas if you live in the Hobby area and want to work in the Medical Center the traffic will be worse.

But as Texagain has pointed out, there are plenty of hospital choices near where your husband will be working, so there are many options open for you.

Good luck!

you guys are wonderful .....anymore info would be greatly appreciated.....we will be in town next monday....have so many places to look at my head is spinning :)
