Medical Spanish

Hi. Does anyone have any suggestions for a med Spanish course? Our translator phones are in short supply and my 20 year old high school Spanish is a little too rusty!

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

Look online - there are tons of medical Spanish courses available online. If you live in a large city, you will probably be able to find some local places that offer classes in person. Also check Craigslist - there are always native speakers who have businesses tutoring people.

Or, if you can afford to take 2 weeks off work, you can do a Spanish Immersion program in central America. :) There are courses specifically for people in healthcare.

When I first started in healthcare, I hadn't used my high school Spanish in 15 years. After 9 years using it at the bedside, I've gotten fairly proficient and can have a basic conversation or take a history. So I would say the best way to get better at it is to force yourself to use it with your patients as much as you can - even just to ask them if they need more water or some pastillas para dolor.

Thanks for the tips. I am going to do some research today.
