Lyme disease

Just a venting session here.......

My sister e-mailed me the other night with the following complaints:

A three ringed "bullseye" rash approx. 6 inches in diameter on her stomach, headaches, malaise....just feeling crummy.

She's very much like me...hikes a lot, in fact her latest trek was in CONN. Did pull a few TICKS off her dog after hiking. A very easy diagnosis right? All above info was reported to MD's. Should've have been as easy as a preschoolers puzzle right?

3 doctors...yes THREE doctors pooh-poohed her suspicions of Lyme disease...her allergist, PCP and 1 other MD. She got so disgusted she went to an emergent care clinic and it took the NURSE there 1 second to look at the rash and listen to my sister's complaints for her to think..."wow...this looks like a case of lyme disease."

She's on abx now and starting to feel a little better.

Gawd I get so disgusted with the medical profession at times..ug!

Anyone else have obvious illnesses ignored like this? I'm sure the answer is yes.

I have one very sad story about Lyme Disease. One of my friends' husband, who lives in Upper Michigan was misdiagnosed with MS. Eight years later he happened to see another MD who diagnosed it as Lyme Disease. He is wheelchair-bound now and has been since the age of 40. Wish he had had a great nurse around!
