Lidocaine expiration?

Does anyone know how long a multi dose vial of Lidocaine 1% w/epi is good after it's been originally opened??

Specializes in MICU for 4 years, now PICU for 3 years!.

I would check with your facility's pharmacy... It's probably going to differ from institution to institution...

I am the only RN at a small student health center and we have no pharmacy. When I worked in the ER and OR we would throw them out after each use. I called the manufacturer and they said 28 days or per your institutions policy?? So I guess I'll go with 28 days :).

Unless your facility has a policy of less than 28 days.

At this point our facility has no policy in place and I am the only nurse and a new nurse at that!!......I guess that is going to be up to me to put together too :(. Policies and procedures....there's another topic for more questions.
