What if....

Call bells had a limit of 3 pushes an hour.

Any extra pushes add $50 a pop to your overall bill

How about that for billing Nursing services.. (jk)

Wonder if it would make people lay off the call bell and actually appreciate it..

Back when I started we used to have an intercom and when somebody rang the bell we could as them from the nurses station why they rang the bell. If it were something they should be doing themselves (talk about keeping patients independent) we would encourage them to do it.

That intercom is sadly missed

Wow, is this not commen practice? Both of mynlocal hospitals have an intercom. I would have never imagined there could not have them other places!!! Lol

i have never heard of an intercom system (for the bells that is) since i started studyin for my BSN!

Maybe I am misunderstanding then? I'm not sure. At my hospital when you push the call light, someone from the nurses station will ask you what you need. It comes through the remote (which has the call light button all in one) where the sound from the tv comes through. Basically it will block the sound of the tv while you are talking to the nurses station. You tell them what you need, they say ok or they say you nurse will be a few due to Bein with another patient. Am I missing something?

no like i have never heard of that. when someone pushes the bell.....its connected to a bell in the nurses station. We hear that and it tells you what room and what bed it came from. Then you walk down to the patient. Im studyin in ireland....maybe its just different cos we are in different countries!

Well I would tend to believe that but from a lot of the other responses it sounds like most places don't have an intercom... Very strange... It just seems to make sense to me. Can anyone else shine some light on this?

I like the "pay for using the call bell" idea, but let's extend this idea a little bit. Instead of tacking it on the bill (which won't work for those folks who don't intend to pay anyway) any use over 2 per hour requires cash. Kinda like a vending machine...insert a dollar and the call bell will "dispense" one use.
