Quick question for all you lucky folks who have made it to official RN status: is it unheard of (or possibly common) for employers to aid new grads by offering relocation assistance?

yes. relocation assistance is available in some areas.... i moved to nc last year and will be starting my job here in june. and they are offering me a relocation assistance package of appx $3000 - as well as a 2 year commitment of appx - $8000. the last i checked there was one for $15,000 - ......am i taking any of them? nope. not sure if i will be here for another 2 years - military wife - and not accepting the relocation assistance package because i don't have the original receipts from the move - military has them - .....

but anyhow.....yes...they can be offered to you.

depends on if there's a shortage of RN's in that area, you can call some hospitals in the area you want to work and ask.

Please note that when a hospital is willing to pay for relocation assist and/or sign on bonus, that is a signal that there is a problem with the facility and they are unable to attract/retain staff. You may want to think twice before you take a job at one of these places and end up miserable or risking your nursing license.

I would think this would be correct - except where I am in AZ - some good hospitals do offer relocation assistance. The shortage is just that bad here.
