Info request on leadership "ladder"

Does anyone have info on creating a management or leadership ladder similar to the clinical ladders? We are thinking that research, publishing, advanced certifications, advanced degrees, professional asso. membership, adjunct faculty member, etc. should be included. This is new to us, so would appreciate any input. If you have "values" for these, how much they are worth in incentive pay, that would help a lot. THANKS

Gee, I wish I had something to offer this thread. It sounds like a great idea -- one I have never actually seen in my many years of practice in various leadership positions. I'll probably mention it to my own leadership team and boss when I think the moment is right.

It's been an issue in my career lately as I have been in leadership positions for over 20 years and yet I am in in the same "job category and pay scale" as nurses with only 5 or 6 years of total nursing experience.

I'll be watching this thread to see what others think.

that is exactly how the idea originated. Surely with the great brains that frequent this forum we can get some input!

I certainly like the criteria you already mentioned. How about....

Mentoring (other, newer people in advanced positions)

Precepting advanced role students

Committee membership and/or chairmanship

Also, a person should probably NOT have to do everything to move up the ladder -- just do some of them, or do some particularly well. For example, if someone were an officer in a professional organization, they might not have time to do research. At this level, people often need to focus on one or two "big things" per year rather than be a jack-of-all trades. They are specialists, not generalists and need to be allowed to focus.

Gotta go ... the plumber just called. If I am willing to leave work now, he can go to my house and fix my garbage disposal NOW! :-)

thanks for the response and hope the plumber was able to fix disposal.

Wow - that sounds like a cool idea. I'll keep tabs on this thread and see what else develops.
