Immunocpromised nurse

Hi all! I am 14 weeks away from starting nursing school. I am 35 with Crohn's disease on remicaide. So I am certinatly immunocompromised. The closer I get to starting school the more nervous I get. I had cdiff twice last year. Am I compromising my health to be a nurse? I really want to be a nurse, this is my second career. But like I said my anxiety is getting worse the closer I get. Am I making a safe decision? I don't want to throw this away, but I also wish to remain as healthy as possible. And there is the entire other issue of wanting to start a family!!! I was accepted to a really great program, but that can't be my only reason. I want my health, career and a family.

I just want to make sure I am making the right decisions. Any advise would be welcome! Thank you!

Have you consulted with your treating medical team to determine if nursing school & nursing is a safe choice for you with your present immune suppressed state? Start there. Most nursing programs and clinical sites require medical clearance without restriction as a condition of enrollment and continuing with the program.

As per the Terms of Service we cannot give medical advice.....I think that only your PCP and specialists can help you make the best "medical" decision I am a nurse and I have an auto-immune disorder....I am disabled now but I worked about 10 years after my diagnosis on immuno-supressives and biologics.

Yes you need to stay healthy and minimize your anxiety/stress but it is doable.

I worked with a RN that had very severe Crohns.....she was never healthier then when she was pregnant.
