If nursing wasn't an option...

Nurses General Nursing

What other healthcare field would you pursue and why?

Radiography techs in MRI and Vascular radiology have it good. When I take patients there, the techs are so pleasant to work with. My sister is an X-ray tech with good hours, good pay and good working conditions. I might wrestle with an exhausting patient for 12 hours, she takes their picture and is gone. Nurses have the burden of patient responsibility.

Respiratory therapists work hard and have a lot in common with nurses. Many of the RT's at my hospital are old-timers with over 20 years of experience at the hospital; perhaps they do not burn out as readily.

Specializes in ICU, currently in Anesthesia School.

Man...I'd be pushin' a drink cart on some carribean island. (still helpin' people) May still get a chance to do it to if this whole anesthesia thing doesn't work out.:lol2:

i'd go for my np.

except you will still need floor experience, but dang, the autonomy you'll have.

if not np, i'd consider medical social work.

another viable and powerful alternative to affecting change in pt's lives.

no nursing option? None at all? hmm.. something in forensics, crime scene investigation ( I love CSI !)...or med school to be a neonatologist

Specializes in critical Care/ICU-traveler.

I had the oportunity to observe an open heart surgery several years ago and the perfusionist job looked very interesting. I understand that it pays fairly well too.

At one point on life I considered being a pharmacist but I stink at math so that was not a viable option.
