HRSA nursing scholarship/Loan question

Hi all!

I'm not sure where to post this.. so if I should post this in another place please let me know! :)

I was really looking into the HRSA scholarship and found that the EFC should basically be 0. Now for me, right now it IS 0 but I've decided to apply for the accelerated BSN (2nd degree) programs for 2012 as opposed to 2011 (to pay off my previous school loans of 100k). I'm gonna need a job which means EFC is no longer 0. SO now for my question: Has anyone done the HRSA loan Repayment option after they found a job and graduated? It only pays for 60% as opposed to the full 100% if you got the scholarship. I'm not sure about what to do... apply to school now, try for the scholarship and cross my fingers/not get the scholarship and collect more loans; or work till 2012's start date, definitely not get the scholarship and definitely collect more loans. *sigh* I wish my parents were filthy filthy rich, or school was free :/

I applied for the HRSA loan repayment program (and was accepted) after I had graduated and started working. The program pays 60% (30% each year for 2 years) of your loans and you can apply for a third year, which is an additional 25% I believe. The third year is not guaranteed, however. I don't know what the ratio of how many people apply to how many get awarded for the scholarship, but I know the loan repayment program is a low ratio.. I would assume the scholarship is too. It may be worth it to apply after you start working and then apply to school so that your employer may pay for some of your future education?? On the other hand, is it an option to apply to school and defer acceptance if you need to?

You have to work for a non profit facility and at the time I used it your facility had to be a critical shortage facility as well. I used it in my previous job with a two year committment. The new app is out with a 2/8/2011 deadline

can you post the link where it has the 2011 deadline on it? thanks!

2012_RN2B, you are talking about the scholarship, this deadline has passed. DCtraumarn is talking about the loan repayment, the deadline has not passed. Both are HRSA but are different and separate programs.

Hope that cleared it up!

thanks I was getting soo frustrated with not being able to find the new app...thanks for clearing that up!!

I have applied to the 2011 HRSA Loan Repayment Program and am a bit stressed out. I was just wondering when you received the award? What was your debt-to-salary percentage? It seems like that's one of the main criteria. How soon after application did you hear back from HRSA about being selected, was via e-mail only? Waiting for reply. Thank you in advance.
