How soon should I go from LPN pay to RN pay

When I got interviewed at my current job I was told that I would go from x amount of money to x amount of money. This is a 10 dollar an hour raise in pay for just becoming a RN and have LPN experience. Well I got my RN and it seems as though my employers are dragging their feet. I feel as though since I now have a new role I should be compensated as such. I presented my paper work to HR and was told my new rate would have to be approved by the DON. I called the DON but she has not returned my phone calls. I plan on going in person tomorrow to make sure this is taken care of.

I'm wondering if I should be less aggressive or just have more patience with this process. How long does it normally take for them to make this change?

I would not wait more than one pay period and if I did hear from the DON I would make sure it will be retroactive to back when I first got my license and handed them the paper work. That DON may be using your RN status to cover her RN coverage for your shift. She is getting all the benefits of having you but not paying you for it. I would get paid for being an RN or I would start looking for another job that will. Also I know that in my state if I am the only RN on with other LPNs but we are all working a med cart, my license makes me the unofficial charge nurse. If this is true in your state too then you should atleast be compensated for it.

it depends on the facility. it took me like 1.5 months to get upgraded to rn pay after i passed the nclex. i work for the county so it had to be approved by the big boss at the headquarters which made everything slow. i was not allowed to sign as rn and staffing counted me as an lpn in the census. they started paying me rn pay on the day it was approved by the big boss not on the day i got my rn license.

keep going to the don and hr and ask if there is an update on the status of your pay. i did this often that is why it took me 1.5 months compared to my other coworker who got her rn also which took 2 months.

and congrats on the 10 dollar increase! i wish i got the same thing. i only got 6 bucks.

I worked three days before the board notified me of my passing. The hospital paid me a bonus for those three days, so my RN pay started the second I passed boards.

Your pay should be retroactive, beginning with the first day you held an RN license. I wouldn't let it go. Make sure you are compensated.

Sometimes changes in position require at least a pay period to reflect in the salary...because the way most pay periods are structured, your change may or may not take place in time for the next paycheck.

Ideally, the pay raise should be retroactive to the day you got your license. The reality is that it will probably be effective the day you signed the paperwork with HR acknowledging the change in licensure, job duties and increase in pay, since before then you were on their books as a LVN. Don't be surprised if reality is the winner.

When you speak with the DON, make it clear that you want to be reimbursed for the entire time you've been working with an RN license. The raise should have been active the moment you passed the boards. Don't wait any longer or they'll give it to you in one huge check, which makes for a higher taxation rate. Don't back down! Hello!

You shouldn't be passive when it comes to business. Go ahead and speak with your human resources department, which would be the correct contact to facilitate pay increases, and explain you have not seen the increase in pay take effect within the respectable time frame. The time frame should have been from the date you were hired on as an RN & not LPN. If you have not interviewed & been accepted as an RN, you can no longer work as an LPN. So, I am assuming you have discussed this with your DON & Human Resources representative prior to.

I would expect it at next pay period, plus back pay for the time they paid you inappropriately.
