I'm thinking of getting licensed in another state to make myself more available for travel. For example - I'd like to maintain a license in my current state (IN) and get licenses in both Michigan and Illinois. But I have NO idea how to go about it. Please advise. Thanks in advance

Try searching the web, usually "board of nursing" or "nursing license" and the state you're looking for will bring up helpful results. Each state has different requirements, and some have the compact that a license in one grants you a license in the others. Once you find the website for the board, you can click around to find what you have to do. Better yet, find the "contact us" link for the nursing board, shoot off an email and just ask.

Good luck

Contact the BON in the state where you want to go. Either call them or check out their website. You want to know how to obtain "Licensure by Endorsement." Start your process early; it can take months, depending on the state and how many hoops they make you jump through.

Illinois and Michigan aren't compact states, so you won't be able to take advantage of the compact for traveling purposes.
