I've been out of the hospital for about 14 years. For the last 10+ years I have worked in doctor's offices and clinics. I'm seriously thinking of going back to the hospital on a part time basis. Problem is, I've been looking at the local want ads and in Workopolis and all the positions require recent experience. I've even dropped off my resume with a cover letter saying that I am willing to work any shift on any floor and there's been no nibble.
I can't go back to school to get my certs because I'm the one who's supporting the family while hubby is in school.
So how on earth can I manage to get a job in a hospital?
Thanks!
Laura

Wait, they take a long time to respond, you will probably get a nibble sooner or later.

Try following up with a phone call telling them of your interest. You want to make sure they got your resume, etc. And good luck to you.

Check out agencies in your area. If there is any way to get you in part time, they will know it (since that is how they make their money).

I believe they willl come a calling, just give it a little time. Some hospitals are really slow about contacting people, even when they're really in need. And if they're using agency and or travelers, they can afford to put off doing call backs. I would agree with putting a call into them also.
Thanks for all your responses.
I'm going to try to call them and ask them if they got my resume. Maybe even talk to someone.

Always, always follow up. I have dealt with HR dept's that LOST my resumes, or sent them up to departments that LOST them o simply forgot to call me, (!) despite purportedly being "desperate" for help in their units. It does happen. With the shortages in so many hospitals, it should NOT be difficult to get back into hospital nursing in quick order, if you want to! Good luck!!!
