Help! Can't decide between nursing or teaching

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi.

I am supposed to start a 2 year ADN program in January. I have a Bachelor's degree in Business and am considering nursing or teaching.

I've been a CNA for 11 years and I have a love/hate relationship with nursing. I love the patient contact, the helping, the caring, etc.

But, there is so much that I DON"T like. Snippy nurses, rude doctors, staffing shortages, STRESS.

Teaching is starting to appeal to me. Am I just thinking that the grass will be greener on the other side? Is there low stress in teaching?

Anyone have any perspective to share?

Thanks!

hug 4 mom I'm not picking at you,I promise.I can identify with you though in a way.I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.Just think,if you decide to be a nurse you will have to decide what kind of nursing you want to do!I've been a nurse since 1996 and I still haven't found my niche, not to say that you won't. Agency work was a good way to satisfy my wanderlust for not having a clue where I wanted to work or if I wanted to work as a nurse all the time.I live in a small area,so choices are limited with hospitals here.Agency provided me with the opportunity to explore LTC,ALF,Skilled nursing in LTC,pediatrics in home and hospital,ICU/PCU,and corrections(something I swore I would never do).You name it I've worked it.Gave me the chance to not get burnt out too soon.
